‘Metals & Non-Metals’

To introduce the lesson ‘Metals & Non-Metals’ grade VIII students were taken to the laboratory and  given samples of Mg ribbon, Zinc granules and Copper turnings along with Sulfur powder. They were asked to observe the given substances under certain criteria such as shine, ability of stretching, pulling two wires etc. The students  came out with the observations that except Sulfur all other material were having shine, stretchable, and can be pulled to wires.
So They also came across the theory that those which conduct electricity and could produce sound are called as  "Metals" and opposite of them are called as "Non-metals".
