As a part of the lesson "Is Matter Around us
Pure", students of grade IX were introduced to the concept of solutions
and mixtures. They were given Copper Sulfate, Potassium Permanganate, sulfur
powder and iron powder and asked the to dissolve it in water, and later filter them to observe
the changes.
Students came out with the observations that copper sulfate
and potassium permanganate solutions easily passed through the filter paper but
sulfur powder and iron powder did not dissolve and were left in the filter
paper.
