Grade 4 Guest Lecture on Human Values

Students of Grade 4 had a guest lecture on the Topic ‘Educare’ by a parent of student of Grade 2, Mrs. Neelima. She explained the meaning of ‘Educare’ — Education with human values. Education has two aspects: The first is related to external and worldly education, which is nothing but acquiring bookish knowledge. In the modern world, we find many well-versed and highly qualified in this aspect.

The second aspect known as Educare is related to human values. Human values are latent in every human being — one cannot acquire them from outside. They have to be elicited from within. Educare means to bring out human values. To 'bring out' means to ‘translate them into action.’

She also explained the human values with examples and small stories:
1. Satya – Truth
2. Dharma – Duty
3. Shanthi – Peace
4. Prema – Love
5. Ahimsa – Non-violence

Grade 1 Activity — Planting Seeds

Children of Grade 1 are learning about plants and seeds. An activity was conducted which was spread over a couple of days. Students were asked to bring plastic cups and soil was put into the cups. Different varieties of seeds like fenugreek, coriander, mustard and green gram were given and they planted them into their respective cups. Some cups were placed in the corridors outside where sun was sleeping in and a few cups were placed inside the class where the sun rays could not seep in.

Children sincerely watered their cups every day and eagerly waited for little saplings to peep out from the seeds to greet them. A few days later, when little green shoots appeared, their excitement knew no bounds.

The seedlings in the cups placed inside the class did not grow well as it did not get enough sunlight. Children learnt that for a seed to grow into a plant it requires sunlight, air, water and soil. They proudly showed their plants to Principal Ma’am and shared their knowledge and experience about the activity.
