Children of classes I to IV have participated in ‘Maths Workshop’ held on 13-02-12. This preparation was well planned by the primary teachers of classes I to IV. The workshop started with a ‘Warm Up’ session by making hand symbols of addition and subtraction. Children then continued with ‘Popcorn’ activity where whenever the teacher tells an Odd number students need to take a ‘crouch’ position and when it is Even number they need to ‘jump up’, in this way they finished this activity in the School Ground. Later, all of them went for the second round, where they were all divided into 8 groups (i.e square, triangle, cube, rectangle, circle, star, cone & Cylinder), each group was given cut outs of shapes and were made to work in a group and create objects. All the Kids displayed great team spirit and came up with different patterns like a train, a house, wall hangings, people, monster etc. It was great fun and it helped students to learn about different shapes and also how to work in a team. The concept of addition, subtraction and multiplication has been used for the third game by using dice. Children threw the dice to add, subtract or multiply this made them use mental abilities. In the end an interesting activity involving ‘Oakridge Supermarket’ was made and the concept of ‘buying and selling’ and ‘optimum utilization’ of money was demonstrated. The teams were called and given duplicate hundred rupee notes to solve word problems and shopping from the fake Money given. Children thoroughly enjoyed and showed great enthusiasm in all the activities by participating and responded well.

The ambiance, the people and the way they received the students and explained the entire process to students are extremely good. Children also showed tremendous interest to know the culture of food in western countries and the exchange of culture happening these days, how the people living here are inviting the other culture and the way we develop interest towards different food cultures in reasonable limits. The equipment they used in making the items is really good.

The students observed the kitchen of the bakery, so many things like hygiene, making of cakes, bread, pizzas, varieties of chicken and different items with bread and they noted down the ingredients used in the baking, the machinery used in making of various items. The cleanliness measures followed by the workers are really appreciated. The way of presenting the items is also excellent. This is good to see the chefs wearing their uniform and children are also in their uniform.

The students utilized their trip in a good way and this is related to their subjects like social studies, science and French (for French students). In many countries people do not eat rice regularly and they eat bread and other bakery products. So the people from western countries are really enjoying the food here in such confectionaries like Food-Ex. They will get the same items which they used to eat in their countries. Our children also will learn by visiting the confectionaries like Food-Ex the food habits of other countries and when they go there they can easily acclimatize to the conditions. And the bakery person served us the muffins to taste in their confectionary.

The students learnt  the culture of French people and also vocabulary from the bakery and bakery products.
