Activity on Senses by Grade 1

As children of Grade 1 are learning about the 5 senses an activity was made on 1st July in the class.
All the sense organs were listed and a Ppt was shown on the sense organs. Then the children were asked to close their eyes (cannot see), ears (cannot hear), nose (cannot breathe/smell) and hold their tongue (cannot talk) and touch their skin, to understand the importance of each of  the sense organs.
Another activity was done to experience  the taste of sweet and salty and know another important function of the  tongue. A spoon of sugar was fed to them and later a pinch of salt was given to them to understand the different tastes and the role of the tongue in helping us to identify the different tastes.
Children enjoyed the tasting activity and were demanding more and more sugar.

Activity of Grade VII CIE on Atoms and Elements

As the concept of Atoms and Elements is to be introduced to students of class-7, I thought of doing this activity with different colors of balls as atoms and when they are linked together they form elements and when they are linked with other elements they form compounds.
Students very actively did the activity and linked the balls with different colors and self learned about the formation of molecules and compounds.

Ascending and Descending Activity of Grade 1

Children of Grade 1 used the steps very effectively to understand the concept of Ascending and Descending Order on 3rd July 2014
They were taught that Ascending is to go up, that is, from a smaller to a greater number and  Descending is to come down that is from greater to a smaller number.
An Example of using the Elevator too was given that when it goes up it ascends and when it comes down it descends.
Children were asked to go up the stairs counting from a smaller number to a larger number and then came down the stairs counting from a larger number of smaller numbers. It was done on two consecutive days for them to understand the concept clearly..
They enjoyed this activity of going up and down the stairs, repeating numbers.

Math Activity on Numbers of grade 1

Children of Grade 1 were introduced to a Math Activity on 26th June in the Classroom. They were divided into groups and 10 straws were given to each group. The teacher went to each table and asked which number  is before, after and between to understand the concept. They were asked to discuss with fellow members and answer.

Similarly, they were asked to  show more and less  bundles of straws  and which number is smaller or greater, to understand the concept of what is more and less.

It was a learning activity to develop thinking, speaking and  observation skills. It also encouraged them to work in a team.
