Children of Grade 1 used the steps
very effectively to understand the concept of Ascending and Descending Order on

They were taught that Ascending is to go up, that is, from a smaller to a greater number and Descending is to come down that is from greater to a smaller number.
An Example of using the Elevator too was given that when it goes up it ascends and when it comes down it descends.
Children were asked to go up the stairs counting from a smaller number to a larger number and then came down the stairs counting from a larger number of smaller numbers. It was done on two consecutive days for them to understand the concept clearly..
They enjoyed this activity of going up and down the stairs, repeating numbers.
