Children
of Grade II had a Math activity on the topic “Fractions”. The meaning of a fraction;
numerator and denominator in a fraction; a whole, half and quarter were explained
to the children. Each child stuck the whole cards and also colored the half
of a whole and the quarter of a whole in their notebooks.
By
this activity, children learnt that a fraction is a part of a whole: a fraction
is written by using 2 numbers — numerator and denominator. Numerator is the number
of parts taken out of the whole and denominator is the total number of parts
the whole has been divided into. They also learnt that when anything is
cut into 2 equal parts, each part is a half and when anything is cut into 4
equal parts, each part is a quarter.
