The lesson ‘Sound’ was introduced to
children with an interesting activity in the class. Children were asked to sit
with their eyes closed and listen to the noises that follow. Sounds were
produced using body parts like clapping, laughing, coughing, snapping fingers,
stamping etc.
Children were asked to recall their trip
to the Farm house and remember the sounds heard there. They came up with
wonderful answers like chirping of birds, barking of dogs, mooing of cows,
bleating of kid, and flapping of ostrich wings.
Children were then asked to come up,
introduce themselves, and produce any sounds using their body parts. They
learnt that there are many sources of sounds and our body is one of them. Then,
all of them joined in sound-producing actions. This activity also reinforced ‘Verbs’
as children recalled that any doing word/action is called Verb.
