Activity on Addition Properties of Rational Numbers

An activity was conducted for students at OIS on Addition properties of rational numbers. Students were divided into four groups and without revealing the name of the property, they were asked to evaluate the following by taking A and B as different Rational numbers.

1)       A+B and B+A
2)       (A+B) +C, A+ (B+C) and (A+C) +B
3)       A+0 and 0+A
4)       A + (-A) and (-A) + A

All the four groups explained their inferences and understood all the properties of addition of Rational numbers. It was an effective learning practice for children.
