Grade I’s Activity on Sound
Students of grade 1 learned about sound through an activity where
kids explored objects which make sound, identify various sources of sound, etc.
They even understood some interesting factors about sound that, when sound
travels from the source it becomes fainter. Kids brought different objects from
home which make sound to do the experiment.

AMAZING FACTS
1) The largest seed in the world is that of the Coco-de-Mer
palm, found on Seychelles islands near East Africa. Also called the double
coconut, it is 40 to 50 cm long pointing avoid and weighs up to 20 Kg.
2) Europe is the only continent without a desert since it is
too far north for hot deserts and too far south for frozen desserts.
3) It is physically impossible for pigs to look up into the
sky.
4) Radio took 38 years to get 50 million listeners. TV took 13
years to get 50 billion viewers. The internet tool only 4 years to get 50
million users!
5) When astronauts go into space, they grow 2 inches taller!
This is because in space there is no gravity pulling down on their bones and
joints. But they return to normal size as they return to earth.
6) The owl is the only bird to drop its upper eye lid to wink.
All the other birds raise their lower eye lids.
Long Vowel Phonemes
Children of grade 1 were divided into groups, and each group
was given words like ai, ee,oo,ao...... Children were made to brain storm using
the phonemes given to them and were made to write the long vowel phonemes on
the given balloons. They identified many words and also made sentences and
poems using the phonemes. This activity helped the kids to recognize and recall
words with long vowel phonemes.
GRADE I’s ACTIVITY ON MATTER AND MATERIALS
Grade I kids were learning about the different types of materials in EVS like fabrics, paper, steel, iron and plastic. Kids were made to identify and later paste the different materials in the notebook and name them. Through this activity the students learned that same material may show different properties, identify uses of materials based on their property and identify which material is best suited to repair a torn umbrella and so on.
