Math Week
We at Oakridge International School,
Vizag is celebrating Math Week from 14th to 18th
July 2014. It’s interesting to see the soft boards in the corridors
exhibiting different quotes on Math. “Question of the Day” is
displayed and interested children can write their answers or solve the puzzles
and drop it in the drop box, the results of which would be announced at the end
of the week.
Grade 1,2 and 3 had a special activity
on Math in the playground on 15th July. The Little ones of Grade 1
were asked to form a circle and had to say numbers quickly in an order. The
ones who missed calling out the next number were out. This not only brushed up
their numbers, but also enhanced their listening skill as they had to listen
intently to call their number to save themselves from getting out.
Grade 2 &3 played a game of odd and even numbers. Children were asked to form a circle and numbers were called out. All the children with odd numbers had to sit and odd numbers to stand. This pattern goes on till all the children are out and come into the inner circle. This game reinforced their concepts of odd and even numbers.
Children then counted their bogies, formed a train and chugged along and had a swell time and participated with gusto and enthusiasm.

Activity on Senses by Grade 1
As children of Grade 1 are learning
about the 5 senses an activity was made on 1st July in the class. All the sense organs were listed and a Ppt was shown on the sense organs. Then the children were asked to close their eyes (cannot see), ears (cannot hear), nose (cannot breathe/smell) and hold their tongue (cannot talk) and touch their skin, to understand the importance of each of the sense organs.
Another activity was done to experience the taste of sweet and salty and know another important function of the tongue. A spoon of sugar was fed to them and later a pinch of salt was given to them to understand the different tastes and the role of the tongue in helping us to identify the different tastes.
Children enjoyed the tasting activity and were demanding more and more sugar.
