@ Kennedy space center



The students were all excited to report to NASA, Kennedy space center, Florida, Orlando as that was the highlight of the entire tour. At Kennedy space center visitors Complex, space shuttle Atlantis is the new $100 million home of the priceless, historic spacecraft that speaks the incredible story of NASA’S 30-year Space shuttle program. The 90,000 square-foot space shuttle Atlantic attraction is the marquee element of the visitor complex’s 10 year master plan. The students were taken through the Rocket garden and various 3D & 4D shows on Atlantis, Hubble space Telescope and the other NASA programs. The students & teachers also got a  unique opportunity to share the real life experience of Astronaut Jack Lousm a veteran of NASA during an interactive lunch session with him. Astronaut Lousm was part of the crew for the Apollo 9, 10, 13 mission. He was the pilot for Skylab 3 and commander of STS-3.


















NASA ATX TRAINING



Oakridgers trip to USA and NASA was an enriching experience where the  students were taken for the Astronaut Training Experience (ATX) at Kennedy Space Centre, Orlando, Florida. Astronaut John Mc Bride , a veteran NASA astronaut, interacted with the students and shared his experience as a pilot of STS 41-G which was launched from Kennedy Space Centre,Florida on October 5,1984,aboard the Orbiter challenger. Astronaut Mc Bride spoke warmly about the First Indian Astronaut in space Mr.Rakesh Sharma and about his long friendship with him.
Later, the students were taken through a space shuttle mission simulation and performed hands-on space exploration activities in groups. They experienced the feel of walking in space during their practice session on the O-G wall and the motion based training simulators. Each group was divided into two crews- mission control crew and the Orbiter crew and coordinated well to perform a full- scale space shuttle mission simulation. At the end of it they were given certificates for the successful completion of ATX.

OAKFIT – A WALK TOWARDS FITNESS



Oakfit was introduced in the school about two years back to encourage fitness and bring in awareness and enthusiasm for good health among the young generation.
75 students and about 10 teachers from Oakridge participated in the "Oakfit" walk on the beach road on 28th July.
Mr. Sharan Kumar Shetty, the first international swimmer from Andhra Pradesh, first national gold medalist and winner of many other medals at national and international level, flagged off the first Oakfit event for this academic year from Kali temple that concluded at Hotel Palm Beach.
Mr. Sharan encouraged the students to balance their time between academics and Sports. He demonstrated few exercises that the students can incorporate into their daily routine at the end of the walk.
