Preprimary's Crazy Hat Day

Preprimary learning is full of fun. Last week A “Crazy Hat Day” event was organized for the Pre Primary children on 30 of July. Children prepared the hats with the help of their Parents. The Hats were as crazy as they could be like pirate hat, cake hat, cat hat etc. Teachers attempt to make ‘learn while you play’ is really appreciable.

Each child spoke about their hat, its design, colour and its use. It was full of fun and frolic for all the children as well as the Parents and teachers.
It is true that Oakridge teachers wear different thinking hats to make things happen for their students!

WAR AND REMEMBRANCE

Our history is yesterday’s politics and we cherish the memory of leaders who showed us a path to follow and motivated to stand against the conventionalities of life. We recognize someone a hero who lived an exemplar life. Winston Churchill remembered as one among them who made his mark in the past. Reflecting a hero’s traits, he laid a hand on several areas like politics, military, arts and literature and left his signature in all these spheres. He believed in a principle that attitude is a little thing that makes a big difference.

Winston Leonard Spencer Churchill is a British origin and served as Prime Minister of Britain twice. From childhood he was fascinated about military service and joined army at the age of 21 and travelled all over the world including India. Other than military service he was keenly interested towards politics and was in the forefront for long fifty years serving various designations. And during the First World War time he took the position of Home Secretary but later on resumed back to army life. But he could not stand in one place as his adventurous mind doesn’t get satisfied; he came back to politics.

Churchill proved those people wrong who thought his mind is only thirsty for adventure, through his life and experiments in other spheres like literature, painting and so on. He is the first British Prime Minister to receive Nobel Prize for literature. And was also the first person to become Honorary Citizen of United States. The Nobel Prize was awarded to him for many of his literary works especially for his six- volume masterpiece “The Second World War” where he depicted the value of human life with his brilliant historical description. The first published work of Churchill is the “The Story of Malakand Field Force” describes the military campaign of 1897 in the North-West Frontier which is part of Pakistan and Afghanistan now. The only fiction based book he write is “Savrola” about the fictional revolution in the European States. All of his literature wonder is totally based on his experiences throughout life especially from the days spent in military campaigns.

His voyage in painting was an inspiration created by his friend Paul Maze and all his paintings were depicting the beauty of landscapes. Like in the other areas of adventure, all his paintings were masterpieces of art.

Churchill says “We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give”.

Oakridge Weekend Voyager- A Superb Platform for Experiential Learning

We are living in an age where creativity is ruling the world and others just follow the footsteps. But even to follow the footsteps some creativity is required. How creativity is generated? This question cannot be answered because creativity comes by birth. Don’t need to worry as all of us are born with one or other talent and the only thing need is the right understanding of your best capability and a little bit of polishing. To fulfill this, Oakridge International School is offering a program- Weekend Voyager, to boost up the aptitude of children apart from their academics.

Weekend Voyager (a weekend activity initiative which provides a myriad of opportunities for students of all ages) is being conducted in all Oakridge’s campuses in Hyderabad, (Oakridge Newton campus – Gachibowli, Oakridge Einstein campus - Bachupally and Oakridge Boarding campus –Vishakhapatnam.) Weekend Voyager offer series of workshops on diverse subject areas like Photography, Film Making, Robotics and Fun with Science etc.

At the Vizag campus, the Weekend Voyager workshops commenced from 2nd September, 2012 onwards on every Sunday 9 am to 12 noon for children in the age group of 6 to 16. Workshops on Robotics, Photography, Film Making and Fun with Science are happening with great enthusiasm from the students’ side. Subject matters like this are often considered as rocket science where you need to know a lot of technicalities to understand it properly. But the workshops are bringing it down to a level where it becomes easy for the children to get in touch with subject without any obstacle under the guidance of a proficient mentor. The participants will be provided various tool kits for each course to keep them familiar with the machinery and experience every aspect of it in detail

More than 70 kids registered for these four workshops and some even opted more than one course. Two more workshops are lined up for the coming weekends covering Theatre Workshop and Aero Modeling. After completing each workshop, the participant will be given certificates on particular subject and in a workshop like Film Making; students will be preparing a full-fledged short film by the end of it.

The appraisals from children are growing day by day concerning the workshops and interestingly their parents are happier than them because of the opportunities provided to their kids. And they believe this will help children in identifying their area of interest and also opting best suited career for them.
