Class II EVS Activity: Changing Materials — Demonstration of Temporary and Permanent Changes and Making of Popcorn

Children of class II had an activity in the classroom on the topic “Changing Materials — Temporary and Permanent Changes and Making of Popcorn” on 9th November, 2013. The children were shown different changes in the materials such as Squashing, Twisting, Stretching and Bending using materials such as orange, chunni, rubber band and a demonstration on making of Popcorn. They were taught about the Temporary and the Permanent changes in the materials.

The children learnt from this activity that when force is applied on a material, its shape changes. They also learnt that some materials regain their original state when the force is removed which is a temporary change and some materials cannot regain their original state even after the force is removed which is a permanent change. The children displayed full enthusiasm in making of the Popcorn and learnt that it is a permanent change of the material. They also finally enjoyed eating the popped popcorn.
