The British Council -tied up with the BBC - organized a worldwide online
debate, inviting opinions from various schools around the globe on the topic, ‘Girls
in Sports’.
We selected a team of eight girls from grades IX to XI- accompanied by
their mentors, Jyothi Srinivas and Anupama, English teachers- to express their
views on the said topic. The entire program was supervised by the Principal in
charge, Ms. Rama.
One of the views posted by Sanjana and Ashka of Grade IX was selected and
was displayed online. We are proud to announce that we have added another
feather to our cap. Below is the message that went on display.

Sanjana and Ashka
from Oakridge International School in Andhra Pradesh, India writes:
"Despite the
phenomenal growth of women's sports in the last 30 years, sports coverage in
newspapers and on television and radio largely remains devoted to men's sports.
Furthermore, when female athletes are the subject of reports and commentary,
they sometimes are referred to in words that treat them difficulty than men,
often in ways which downplay or trivialize their achievements.
A balanced and realistic
view is what is absent in the media. Young girls and women of all ages, races,
and social class backgrounds are breaking down historical barriers to their
participation. So it is on the part of the media to put forth and emphasize on
the importance of girls in sport."
