Vocabulary is central to English language learning because
without sufficient vocabulary it is difficult to express our ideas understand
others.
Wilkins (1972) wrote that “While without grammar very little
can be conveyed, without vocabulary nothing can be conveyed”.
Mastering vocabulary is very important for students. It helps
them in enhancing their writing and speaking skills. We have taken this as our
prime target and started working on this. The new words are introduced to the
students by asking the students to fill the missing alphabet of the words and
the meaning of that word serves as the clue for them.
Every day the students are given one word to find out. This
week the students have in their word bank the following words along with their
meanings -
Ramble- walk for pleasure
- Solecism- mistake of grammar or idiom.
- Abbess- head of a community of nuns.
- Ran counter - teller of anecdotes
- Bailey- outer wall of a castle.
