Children of Grade 1 are learning about
plants and seeds. An activity was conducted which was spread over a couple of
days. Students were asked to bring plastic cups and soil was put into the cups.
Different varieties of seeds like fenugreek, coriander, mustard and green gram
were given and they planted them into their respective cups. Some cups
were placed in the corridors outside where sun was sleeping in and a
few cups were placed inside the class where the sun rays could not seep in.
Children sincerely watered their cups
every day and eagerly waited for little saplings to peep out from the seeds to
greet them. A few days later, when little green shoots appeared, their
excitement knew no bounds.
The seedlings in the cups placed inside
the class did not grow well as it did not get enough sunlight. Children learnt
that for a seed to grow into a plant it requires sunlight, air, water and soil.
They proudly showed their plants to Principal Ma’am and shared their
knowledge and experience about the activity.
