Activity on Understanding the Characteristics of Plants
Children of Grade 1 were taken for a
stroll in the School garden on 19th December. They were shown different kinds
of plants, their characteristics and different parts of a plant. They saw trees and learnt that trees
are tall and strong and only trees have a crown, trunk, and branches. Small plants
have delicate stems and shrubs have woody stems and are close to the ground. Children
understood that roots and leaves are common to all the plants. They touched the
bark/trunk, stem, and woody stem to feel the texture and understand the
difference.
Sand Tracing Activity
Sand
tracing is a fun and sensorial method to learn writing and kids love doing it
in Frisbees. Sand leaves a mark when we run our fingers through it. Ample
amount of sand was taken from the sand-pit, and placed it in the Frisbee. We
teachers started by writing the letter on white board and children were given
instructions to repeat the same letter on sand and were asked to say how the
letter would sound…
Playgroup Activity
Children
are always amused to see different prints, be it footprint or hand-print. The
little ones were given toy animals and were asked to print their footsteps on a
white sheet. This animal tracking activity enables the children to improve
their eye-hand co-ordination, fine motor skills, organizing and research skills.
